Five Play-Based Activities That Build Big Language

Mrs. Gwen, SLP
Blog post cover: Five Play-Based Activities That Build Big Language

Play is the work of childhood

Some of the most powerful speech practice happens through play. Here are five favorites.

1. Bubbles

Pause before you blow and wait for your child to request "more" or "go."

2. Pretend snack time

Feed the stuffed animals and model simple phrases like "yummy banana."

3. Book sharing

Name pictures, ask questions, and let your child turn the pages.

4. Ball games

Rolling and tossing invites turn-taking words like "ready, set, go."

5. Sing songs

Leave out the last word of a familiar song and let your child fill it in.
